In accordance with Colonial Regulation No.265
I have the honour to request your authority for supplementary expenditure under Head 28 of the Estimates for 1935 in respect of Rent Allowances: [Sub-head 40, Senior Officers, $25,600.00, Sub-head 41, European Subordinate Officers, $25,000.00, and Sub-head 42, Asiatic Subordinate Officers, `$13,400.00.

This expenditure was approved on 16th January, 1936, by the Finance Committee whose report will be submitted for adoption at the next meeting of the Legislative Council.
3. The reasons for the excess are set out under Items 113, 114 and 115 of Message No.1 of 1936 a copy of which is enclosed. Many variable factors make it difficult to estimate accurately the requirements in respect of these
sub-heads.
4. Owing to the nature of the votes the expenditure has been authorised in anticipation of your approval.
